Why it is prescribed: It has activity agents gram negative bacilli eg. shigella, salmonella and is also effective against trichomonas giardia.
When it is to be taken: Adults: 100mg 3-4 times. Children: 5mg/kg bw daily in 4 divided doses.

Special Instruction : Stop the medication if urine colour turns orange. The medication interacts with alcohol, anorexiants, Levodopa, sympathomimetrics, hypnotics and sedatives.
Side Effects : Nausea, vomiting, dizziness & headache.
Other Precautions : Not recommended in pregnancy & lactation. May be given reduced dose in old age.
